Caph (כ) is the 11th letter in the Hebrew Alphabet and it stands for the number 20 when using Hebrew letters as mathematical representation. The Hebrew way to count is done by useing the same letters we use for reading (this is called Gimatria).

The letter stands for:

  1. Kol (כל) = all

  2. Kisoi (כיסוי) = a covering; in the Jewish context it is when things are hidden from sight, as G-d and Divinity need to be searched for, as if we are playing a game of hide and seek.

  3. Ki-se (כיסא) = a chair, or a throne. Here, the idea of a throne is hidden behind a golden robe. Ki-se Malchot (כיסא מלכות) refers to G-d's throne.

  4. Kaph (כף) is the utensil spoon. In the mystical context of Jewish letters, it is the shape that receives and cradles matter in it - as our bodies cradle our soul, and as we, humans, should hold accepting safe spaces for one another.

________

In this alphabet art series I explore biblical and Jewish-spiritual ideas, as they reflect through the shapes or associated meaning of each letter.

This project is based on my personal musing and not on any Jewish teachings. Any connection to other teachings is unintentional.

My hope is that through this art we get a deeper glimpse into our realities, our worlds illusions and the hope that can be found in the power of the Hebrew letters.
