Gimel (ג), art by Ashrei Ima Sari

In this alphabet art series I explore biblical and Jewish-spiritual ideas, as they reflect through the shapes or associated meaning of each letter.

This project is based on my personal musing and not on any Jewish teachings. Any connection to other teachings is unintentional.

My hope is that through this art we get a deeper glimpse into our realities, our worlds illusions and the hope that can be found in the power of the Hebrew letters.

Gimel (ג) is the third letter in the Hebrew Alphabet. The themes explored in this art are:

  1. Gevorah (גבורה) - bravery

  2. Gesher (גשר) - a bridge

  3. Geola (גאולה) - redemption

The combination of these three ideas is represented by the bravery we all must face when we advance throughout the challenges of our lives. When we are stuck in a space, be it mental or physical, or both, we feel as if we are being crushed by forces that are beyond our ability to cope with. Yet we keep going - that requires bravery. The path we find ourselves on can feel like a narrow bridge, from which every wrong move can send us falling into darkness, pain and bad habits we do not wish to return to. Therefore, our life becomes a narrow bridge. This bridge is our path towards our own redemption, our own Geola. If we only find the needed courage (Gevora) to keep on walking on the path of our life which bridges our past mistakes and hardships with a better future(Gesher), we will start noticing that every step along this narrow and constricting path is actually our steps, elevating us towards our own salvation (Geola).

May we all find the strength and courage to keep walking on our narrow bridges, so together we can create a tapestry of beautiful life's, enriching each others with light, strength, inspiration and beauty.
